Food Bank Summary

Food bank is our sincere effort to establish a system for ready and easy access to free food for the hungry.  This quarter, we made the following connections:

· Groceries were delivered to 100 families equaling one week’s worth of food per family –worth around $1200

· Food for new Muslims delivered during Ramadan - $200

AlSadaqa Club

AlSadaqa Club is an initiative to promote and inculcate the Islamic concept of charity, positive habits and giving in our children.

They do different projects each quarter.     For their fall/winter project AlSadaqa Club kids made scarves and hats for the “Warm for Winter Project”.  They  will be distributing these hats and scarves at Tent City in Issaquah after Eid-ul Adha.

Eid-al Adha

Qurbani / Udhiya 1432H (2011)

For the past two years, our Udhiya program has been very successful.  This year however, the slaughter house we worked with in past years is going out of business, and we haven’t found a reliable substitute as yet.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Testimonial

Single Homeless Woman-

… I often feel degraded and humil-iated by the way others communicated with me, but the person I talked to from AlSadaqa was very compassion-ate, kind, generous. I did not feel embarrassed or bad in receiving help as I did elsewhere.

Thanks to the help AlSadaqa provided me one of the biggest hurdles I faced is now over. …”

Zakat-ul Fitr & Eid Toy Drive

...I know lots of families who cannot even afford to pay their rent, let alone buy new clothes and toys for their kids for the Eids, so I immediately made a short list of families that I know and e-mailed it to

Br. Abid. He brought lots of nicely wrapped toys, and handed me 16 gift cards ($40 each) to distribute. To my surprise, as I am distributing the gifts, the families keep telling me that more new families have been resettled in the last couple of months and they have children too.

The families were very pleased and surprised by these unexpected Eid gifts. They were very grateful and praised Allah that someone remembered them.

The idea that someone remembered them during the Month of Ramadan and Eid, caught them by surprise with appreciation.
That Sunday, Br. Abid informed me that there were more gifts to be distributed. Although exhausted from the previous tour...I thought if I did not do it, then
who would?  And what about the kids who were not able to get the gifts yesterday, who walked away sadly?  I agreed to meet with Br. Abid and take care of the toy distribution. These toys were very well wrapped and labeled with the gender and age which made it easier to distribute.

The Eid toy drive was a success and brought joy to families who left everything behind and came to America as refugees. I hope more volunteers from AlSadaqa were involved in the distribution of the toys and I hope more coordination is made ahead of time.
Jazakum Allah khair for your compassion and generosity to help families who are in need.
